Dr. Harrison-Jackson also referred to as "Dr. HJ", was born and raised in Maryland, and developed a passion for animals from a young age, especially exotic species. Dr. HJ volunteered with horses during middle and high school and gained small animal experience. Graduating from North Carolina State University with a degree in Animal Sciences and French, she worked in avian and exotic animal practices, wildlife sanctuaries, and even trained in veterinary wildlife medicine in Kenya.
Dr. HJ obtained dual degrees, a Doctor of Veterinary Medicine and a Master of Public Health, from Virginia-Maryland Regional College of Veterinary Medicine at Virginia Tech. For the past four years, she has worked as a small animal veterinary associate, specializing in dentistry, animal behavior, end-of-life care, ultrasonography, and integrative approaches to medicine. Dr. HJ also incorporates fear-free techniques into her practice.
Outside of work, Dr. HJ enjoys traveling, gardening, audiobooks, camping, hosting events, and watching horror movies. She shares her home with an American Staffordshire bull terrier, a pit mix terrier, a cat, a snake, and a chinchilla.
