Did you know there’s a special kitty holiday coming up? March 28th is Respect Your Cat Day! Our feline overlords do have a way of wrapping us around their paws and getting us to pamper them. Here, a Glen Burnie, MD vet lists some cute ways cats request—or even demand—respect.
Does your kitty sometimes politely grab your sweater with a claw when she wants to cuddle? Or maybe Fluffy head butts you instead. Don’t refuse these adorably polite requests for snuggles!
Does your kitty wind herself around your legs when she wants food? Perhaps Fluffy simply meows to demand that you fill her bowl right meow! No matter how your cat orders dinner—or decides that she doesn’t like what you served—chances are you have a hard time ignoring your furball’s commands.
One great thing about cats is that they fit so neatly on our laps. However, you may find yourself more or less trapped by a sleeping kitty, and delay getting up, just to avoid disturbing Her Furry Highness.
Cats can be very particular about just when and how we are allowed to pet them, and for how long. Too much attention is a huge faux pas as far as Fluffy is concerned. Not enough attention is also a serious misstep. Petting your feline pal the wrong way is also a huge offense. Let your kitty dictate when and how she wants to snuggle. When she decides she’s had enough, just let her go. (Of course, cats are notorious for ignoring us when we want to pet them, and demanding attention when we’re busy, but that’s another topic.)
While kitties do spend a rather excessive amount of time sleeping, they can’t snooze all the time. Respect Fluffy’s needs by giving her plenty of toys to play with.
Although your cat may spend the entire car ride to the vet’s complaining loudly, she will both look and feel better with proper health care. Make sure your kitty is current on exams, vaccines, and wellness care.
Cats aren’t very big on letting their humans have personal space. Fluffy will even follow you into the bathroom!
